The lion, striding through its kingdom, every pace establishing its authority. This powerhouse of an animal unleashes a force that mighty warriors look up to, calling for its invincible power in their war chants. Zulus even call their king, the Supreme Lion. When lions decide to attack, there is no place for hesitancy. Only ferocious fearlessness.

Look at the leopard, dressed in its distinctive spots. As the Zulus aptly say, “The leopard hunts using its spots”. And so it does! Relying on its beautiful camouflage to blend into its surroundings, this agile hunter can get right up close to its prey, unnoticed. And there it strikes, precision earning success.

Creatively captured here is the characteristic stare of the buffalo. Typically found in large herds, buffalo uphold loyalty and solidarity as they work as one in defence of the group. Standing together in the face of danger, they unflinchingly stare down their predator.

The rhino, solid and bulky, yet, surprisingly, able to run very fast, reaching speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. Rhino hide is very thick, naturally lending itself to metaphors for toughness and resilience. And that is exactly what the rhino itself displays in its behaviour.  

Prominently featured in the art is the elephant’s trunk. This amazing organ is a multipurpose wonder, from breathing to plucking from trees or the ground, spraying or drinking water, guiding babies and even communicating with soft delicate touches or threatening gestures. But such skill takes practice to master, a responsibility this majestic animal excels at.
