Nature holds a treasure chest of life lessons for us and clear examples of these play out in the behaviour of wild animals.

The questing eagle with its sharp eyesight and wide-range vision, soars across the skies endlessly scanning the land in its quest for food. Its search may be long and arduous but as the Zulu proverb says, “Only the roaming eagle catches fine prey.”

But success also depends on strategy, a vital tactic deployed by the cheetah. A direct and straight chase allows it to capitalise on its speed and minimise the chances of exhaustion.

The Kudu on the other hand tries to break the chase of its predator by heading for the twists and turns provided by dense bush or rocky areas. It never allows fear and panic to divert its focus from escape.

Both animals illustrate that every situation offers you choices, and by holding your focus you can beat fear.

The giraffe and zebra actually help each other, as their differences strengthen their symbiotic relationship. The giraffe’s height allows it to spot danger far in the distance; whereas the zebra will see beneath the branches of the trees. They display the benefits of team work by picking up on each other’s tell-tale signs of alarm, clearly living the life lesson of We is stronger than Me.
